How to build backlinks to gain authority?

Building backlinks is difficult because not all other bloggers are willing to welcome just anyone onto their blog, and then link back to them.

What I mean by that is, guest posting to blogs with a high domain score is the most effective way to increase your domain score.

But those blogs either already have their favorite contributors or are choosy when it comes to the pieces they publish.

Many have been successful in link building, but that’s just on the surface.

If you dig deep, you will discover that many of their backlinks were acquired unethically, using blackhat methods — irrelevant, spammy, paid.

Remember that link building is not a quantity game. One quality backlink is better than 10 malicious ones.

If you did blackhat link building and search engines found it out, you might get banned by them.

So how can you build backlinks properly and gain authority?

I mentioned earlier the most effective way to gain authority: Have your articles be posted on other blogs with a high domain authority score.

You can know the domain authority score of any website using MozBar, which is a free browser extension.

You can also use other online tools like Website SEO Checker and manually do the searching.

Guest posting takes work. You write the article, look for blogs open to submissions, email all of them, and hope you get a positive reply.

The popularity of generative AI has made guest posting harder. Many don’t want AI writing, and these people are skeptical.

Don’t expect that one in 20 will respond. One in 500 is probably a good ratio. I am kidding, but it happens to some people.

To write a guest post, you need to follow the writing guidelines of the blog you want to submit to.

On most submission guidelines pages, you will know what format they accept, where you should write it, what topics they publish, etc.

“Write for us {industry}” is a good start when looking for blogs.

Don’t forget to check their domain authority score as it matters in this case.
